Traffic light timings.

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 11:49, Fri 13 August 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2933270.

The temporary traffic lights controlling traffic flow through the A27 roadworks adjacent to Drusillas Park are causing a ridiculously long queue East and West bound. The ludicrous settings applied to the Drusillas A27 lights have resulted in that short stretch of journey taking far longer than if should. That is so wasteful and environmentally harmful. Please revisit those light settings/ timings. Thank you,

  • Our traffic management team have been working hard to keep traffic flowing along the A27 and through the busy junction with Alfriston Road. With the easing of lockdown, the summer school holidays and the fact that people are still essentially unable to travel abroad this summer, there has been a dramatic increase in the sheer volume of traffic using the Highways England network. We’re aiming to finish the improvements at Drusillas roundabout by late autumn this year. From 9 September, a new traffic management set up will mean much improved traffic flow through the junction.

As part of the A27 East of Lewes Improvement Scheme, we’re creating a new route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The path stretches from Firle to Polegate for 11km and will open up access to the South Downs National Park and link communities along the A27. We’re also constructing a path from the Drusillas roundabout to join up with the existing path from Berwick Station. The scheme aims to improve traffic flow and journey time reliability by reducing bottlenecks at key junctions along the A27. We’re sending out a regular newsletter to customers with updates on road closures and progress. Please let us know if you’d like to be added to the distribution list by emailing or by calling our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000.
