Controlled pedestrian crossing button

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 18:50, Sat 7 August 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2921031.

The illumination on the button on the north side of the crossing appears defective. Pedestrians are unable to be sure that the crossing has been activated (especially now that the wait time has been increased so much), so may take risks to cross this busy road.

Updates

  • The light around the button on the southside of the crossing also sometimes goes out while waiting, and it's not clear whether the crossing is still operating or doesn't "know" that someone is waiting. Again, given the long dwell time, I'm concerned that pedestrians will risk crossing the road without waiting for the crossing.

  • There is a very long time delay from pressing the button to the red light stopping the traffic. This is a very busy time of year and we village folk need and use the crossing, especially the elderly. Because of the time delay many walk away or cross over taking dangerous risk, and then when the traffic stops there is no one at the crossing which is causing unnecessary interruption to an already extremely busy main road. Please can you fix.

  • I'd recommend ringing them on: 0300 123 5000. Sometimes HE doesn't monitor these E-forms for some reason.
