40 mph zone

Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 19:54, Fri 6 August 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2919624.

I would like to point out how dangerous this section of road is at the moment with a 40mph zone and absolutely no road works during the day!….not even a cone!…

As a driving instructor I travel this section regularly and as the days go on fewer and fewer people obey the speed restrictions.

Tonight at 5pm we cause a massive hazard on this road, travelling an 40mph whilst not one other vehicle was doing this. This is so dangerous and a massive hazard for us driving Instructors who are advocating the law!….

Tonight I felt very unsafe in my work!…. Why are these signs left out during the day when obviously nothing is happening?…. It’s so dangerous, other traffic can see nothings happening so travels at normal speed!….

Please, oh please, if this restriction is to remain, please police it to keep everyone safe.

Many thanks 😊

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England.

We are carrying out essential resurfacing between the Postwick junction and Ipswich Road junction on both the westbound and eastbound carriageways of the A47.

Alongside this, we’ll be doing additional maintenance and repairs to safety barriers, replacing road markings and reflective studs (cat’s eyes), new road signs and updating technology.

We split the work into phases, which has taken four months to complete.

From Monday 19 July to Wednesday 18 August there has been westbound overnight closures from 8pm to 6am on the A47 between Cucumber Lane Roundabout and Trowse Newton, including weekends.

The outline of these works can be found here https://highwaysengland.co.uk/ our-work/ east/ a47-postwick-to-ipswich-road-resurfacing/ which outline a completion of 20 August 2021.

Traffic management is left out during the day as this world have been out for safety reasons and removing these signs and putting them back out every day for the past 4 months would have delayed the start and end of each shift causing a delay to these works.

I hope this helps with your report and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    Kind Regards Highways England
