Thank you for contacting Highways England via Fix My Street regarding the signage and diversion route for the A45 closures. I am Paul Valentine, the Public Liaison Officer from Carnell, the principal contractor appointed by Highways England to carry out the improvement works. We were very sorry to hear about the problems that you encountered and do understand your concerns. The A45 Eastbound was closed between Rushden Lakes to Stanwick, through the weekend of 30 July – 2 August. In an effort to minimise disruption, we ensured there was advance warning of this planned closure in the media along with a series of road signs, highlighting both the A45 Chowns Mill closure and the diversion route. These were put in place along the A45 from the M1 along the A45 to Wellingborough and along the A45 to Rushden Lakes. A diversion route was clearly signed directing traffic at Wellingborough to the A509 to the A14. The diversion route was carefully chosen and agreed by the police and local authorities. The route diverted traffic away from Rushden. We advise all motorists to use the signed diversion route for safety reasons. I understand how frustrated it must have felt, to have been caught up in the congestion at Rushden Lakes, many drivers attempted to drive through Rushden and then encountered temporary traffic signals on Northampton Road. This created congestion which was very disruptive for other road users. We’re working with the developer on Northampton Road Rushden to ensure the temporary traffic lights are removed during our next weekend closure There are further road closures planned for the A45 Chowns Mill, which I have included the information below. I hope that this proves to be helpful for you.
