Change of road markings at roundabout (huntingdon, A141 meets A1307)
Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 22:34, Sun 25 July 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2890265.
Three Lanes coming into roundabout. Left lane now changed to only left. Middle changes to go straight and need to get on left lane as coming onto roundabout. And right lane to come on roundabout at middle lane, then change to right lane. Middle lane and left lane drivers seem confused and not sticking to lanes. Left lane goes straight, so middle lane is forced to stay on middle lane. And right lane has bo choice but to go on middle lane at roundabout , at times coming very close to scraping the middle lane Car.
This is an accident waiting to happens. So many people have already complained about the exact same issues

I have a dash cam and I have been caught up many of times there when travelling to work and when I’m supporting in a support car this can be dangerous and also cause harm to everyone and put a person I support I strongly suggest that the road markings are rather put back or compulsive measures of people being able to only turn left I’ll put in place

Thank you for contacting Highways England regarding Spittals roundabout.
The changes we’re making at the junction are a result of a design to make sure the correct destination signs are in place for the A1307 and A141. In order to manage the traffic, rather than closing the junction completely, we’ve done the work in phases around the roundabout. The road marking layout on the eastbound approach to Spittals is the last phase which is due to be finished early this week. Also, once all our changes are complete, a road safety audit will be done to highlight if there are any safety concerns which need addressing.
Lane 1 is now a dedicated left hand filter lane, solely intended for drivers wishing to exit Spittals roundabout and head northbound along the A1307 towards the A1M. Lanes 2 and 3 are for drivers continuing to travel on the A141 eastbound, or exiting Spittals roundabout to head southbound along the A1307.
As with any changes to the road layout on our SRN, we have installed temporary signs on the approach to Spittals roundabout, advising that the road layout has changed. As a temporary solution, we’ve also masked off the incorrect information on the approaching signs while replacement signs are being obtained. This ensures that the information on the signs matches the road markings on the approach to the roundabout, which should make it clear for approaching drivers which lane to take for their journey.
We apologise if these temporary measures have caused some confusion and not been very clear. We’re finishing the work by installing lane markings on the roundabout early this week and the straight ahead arrow in the inside lane will be hydro-blasted.
We have also recently discovered an issue on the controller that runs the traffic signals and resolved this yesterday. We hope this has improved the traffic light issue at the roundabout.
Thank you again for contacting us
Kind Regards Highways England
