M27 closed - but no diversion signs

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 22:32, Fri 16 July 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2870643.

My journey this evening eastbound on the M27>>A27 from Southampton to Chichester was delayed by two motorway closures. 1) The closure near Hedge End had no diversion signs to guide you off the motorway; you had to drive round a couple of rounadabouts to find the first one. 2) Much worse: the closure approaching the Portsmouth junction eastbound on the M27 has no diversion signs at all. There are signs telling you to follow the diamond signs, and then the road divides in two - but there are no signs telling you which fork is the diversion. I took the left fork and ended up on a giant roundabout, where there was a diamond sign - leading onto a closed road. So I guessed my way for several miles, and eventually found another diamond sign near Havant, purely by accident. Quite obviously, the diversion signs have not been set up properly - and nobody has bothered to check. This was not only very inconvenient - it was highly dangerous, as cars were wandering across lanes, trying to work out where they were supposed to go. Some people willl probably spend the night driving round the Cosham roundabout, looking in vain for the right exit. Hopeless!
