Illuminated 40 sign closely followed by fixed 50 sign

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 15:31, Mon 5 July 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

I left the M25 at Junc. 12 anti-clockwise on Sunday 4th July under a 40 mph limit. When I got to the point where the roads splits for North or Southbound, there was a gantry sign with de-restricted northbound, but still 40 southbound. Immediately beyond the gantry sign there was a fixed 50 sign. At no point was there a repeater sign to indicate the 40 limit was still in force. Was it? This is a common occurrence, and one I have reported before, but true to form, nothing has been done to rectify the situation.

  • The illuminated 40 sign at the M25/M3 southbound junction cannot be manually raised apparently. Someone has decided that a computer dictates the speed, irrespective of the traffic flow or road conditions. Presumably that person does not travel on this stretch of road, nor have any driving experience.
