Streetlights not working for long time

Reported via desktop in the Street lighting (NH) category anonymously at 09:51, Mon 31 May 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2758851.

These streetlights have not been working for a long time, this could be dangerous to drivers as they can’t see properly. Tip: I’m nit sure if you already are but maybe try upgrading to led streetlights as they are more energy efficient and last longer

Updates

  • Thank you for your report about inoperative lighting on the M6 at Junction 31a. We carry out lighting replacement and repairs as part of our routine maintenance schedule throughout the year to maintain the trunk roads and motorways in England to a safe and serviceable condition. Sometimes sections of lights may be inoperative, but the area as a whole still meets lighting standards. In these circumstances repairs may not be done immediately, but will be undertaken as part of our routine maintenance works. We have taken the decision to turn off certain sections of lighting around this junction on safety grounds, due to issues with the cables. Two schemes are being planned to replace the lighting. These are on the M6 north of Junction 30 to Junction 31A and the M6 Junction 32 to M55 Junction 1. Currently these schemes are expected to start in the 2020/21 financial year and be completed in 2021/22. In the meantime certain sections of lighting will remain deactivated.
