Road markings exiting Edwalton at roundabout

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 20:45, Mon 10 May 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2717806.

The roundabout is known for traffic reports as Wheatcroft Roundabout. First issue - Road Markings are badly eroded - virtually obliterated. Second (main ) Issue Exiting Edwalton - there are three lanes to use Lane 1 (Left) "A left turn Arrow" - A52 East only Lane 2 (Centre) "A Straight On Arrow" - identified as A606 Melton only. Lane 3 (Right) Also "A Straight On Arrow" identified as A52 West In reality for this roundabout the Lane 3 marking should surely be in fact a "Right Turn Arrow" The consequence of this is that motorist choose not to read road identity (A606. A52West) BUT follow the arrows. I use this junction daily having near misses regularly sometimes being verbally abused by motorist who seem to think that Lane 2 (Centre) with Straight on Arrow is bonafidely for the A52 West - as it matches that in lane 3. Inspection will reveal that parts of vehicles litter the verges from collisions. Fortunately I am not yet one of them. In attending to the faded road markings can it be possible to resolve this - either by reinforcing the markings correctly as I have suggested - OR - add A52West to the Lane 2 marking with A606 Melton.

Updates

  • As I detailed the above problem I omitted to stae that my daily journey is to exit the roundabout to Flawforth Lane - hence needing to switch to the left whilst negotiating the roundabout. This perhaps explains better the reason for so many altercations.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England about road markings at Wheatcroft Island.

We are aware of this. Unfortunately works on the Clifton Bridge are taking priority and the re painting of the road markings will be effected on completion of the Clifton Bridge scheme.

We will provide a further update to confirm when the work has been completed.

    Kind regards Highways England
