Comment on road markings and signage at the roundabout on the A206 to the EAST of the Dartford crossing.
This is the first roundabout when leaving the A282 from the QEII bridge (map ref 51deg 27’ N, 0deg 14’ E, What Three Words ships.drag.rungs}.
Approaching the roundabout from the A282, the two lanes split into four with lanes 1 and 2 signed on the road “A206 ERITH” which is the first exit and lanes 3 and 4 “A026 SWAN” (Swanscombe) which is the second exit. There are also later exits to B2228 and M25.
According to these road markings which are some way back from the roundabout, lanes 1 and 2 should ONLY be used for exit 1 to Erith. Unfortunately lane 2 aligns well with the left lane of the two lanes between exits 1 and 2 so I have witnessed many incidents where drivers have driven from lane 2 to the left lane between exits 1 and 2 with the intention of using exit 2 at the same time as drivers in lane 3 have (correctly) driven towards the same left lane between exits 1 and 2. A few weeks ago I believe there was a collision.
I believe there needs to be signage at the side of the road on the approach to the roundabout and extra arrows on the road surface all the way up to the stop line to reinforce the instruction that lanes 1 and 2 are ONLY for exit 1.
Also, most of the road markings on all the roads leading up to this roundabout need renewing.
