  • Thank you for contacting Highways England about the speed cameras, narrow lanes and cones left out on the A27.

We are aware of this and repair works for some bridge parapets are planned to start this month.

The temporary speed limit and narrow lanes are traffic management for these planned parapet repair works.

We do acknowledge work had completed in this area previously however the speed restrictions have remained in place to protect the parapets on the adjacent bridges which carry the M27 over the Portsbridge roundabout.

We will provide a further update to confirm when the work has been completed however for the time being, the speed restrictions will remain in place.

    Kind regards Highways England

  • Last night I left Portsmouth ferry terminal at at 21.50, then my worst nightmare began. I followed the few and far between diversion signs, driving around Portsmouth for over 30 miles, and revisiting the ferry terminal 4 times! The signage is absolutely abysmal, and quite often not there at all, or impossible to see at night. After 1 and a half hours I end up in Eastleigh Lidl carpark completely freaked out by the shear incompetence of the nation highways. It continues as far as Bournemouth and Poole. I arrived in Dorchester at 1am after driving 105 miles. I haven't been to Portsmouth for 14 months, the work was still going on then, and seems to have been going on for years, what the hell is going on???? It is impossible to express my anger and total contempt for the people who are supposed to be helping the public, but are in fact making their lives a living misery.
