Confusing and out of sync

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 16:00, Mon 26 April 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2692420.

The traffic lights are confusing to motorists - i have personally had a number of near misses due to drivers ignoring the red lights when turning right from Gt Union St to Castle St as the lights give a green to traffic to exit Victoria Dock In addition the second (right hand) lane at Plimsoll Way is marked with an ahead arrow - this is incorrect as it should be a right turn arrow as this lane is the lane to turn onto Roger Millward Way. This causes traffic to overtake the queueing traffic waiting to exit to Great Union St and "cut in" when they realise.

The lights do not change in sync - for example waiting at Plimsoll Way on a red light, the lights hold you back then the set in the middle change from green to red and the Plimsoll Way set permit on green! No wonder motorists pass red lights. Additionally as Plimsoll Way turn green the lights allowing access west onto Castle St turn red which results in a queue back through the junction and more red light jumping.

This has been raised with the local council but they refer back to yourselves. The local ward councillors are aware and have stated they are lobbying for a full review of this junction - it is far from an improvement and when Castle St is complete this junction will become the new Mytongate congestion spot. You've removed one obstacle and created a monster!
