Debris and incomplete work resulting in vandalism
Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 09:29, Sun 25 April 2021
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2689743.
Work has taken place under the Orwell Bridge to install a new hand guard rail. Upon completion the site has not been cleared properly and the re-instated wooden fencing has not had all posts installed, resulting in the rails being forced off. An area of fencing immediately adjacent is still smashed. I have pictures to illustrate and am happy to be conteacted to discuss. Robin Coates 07840610856

Thank you for contacting Highways England.
We have passed your report regarding vandalism under Orwell Bridge to our local inspector who will review the issue as part of their next safety check.
We installed new timber rails where these were missing / previously damaged by vandals and we also reinstalled new rails and a post at the foot of the West revetment, as we had previously removed these to provide access when the temporary staircase was being installed.
Our site manager completed a final walkover of the abutment works area on the last day we were on site and can confirm that the post and rail fencing was still in place and all materials and rubbish had been cleared from all works areas and removed from site.
If you require any further update on this issue our Customer Contact Centre is available 24 hours a day at: • 0300 123 5000

Called 0300 helpline this morning, 12th May, and discussed with Dan. The current status of the site is: - Adjacent old wooden fencing is smashed and has been so for a significant period of time. - New fencing is now almost completely dismantled, fence rails being left ‘nails up’ on the footpath (I have turned these over to make safe) - One of the bright orange plastic temporary barriers is still on the grass adjacent. - Section of old fencing is propped to side of new fence. - significant quantities of rubbish all around site. I would welcome the opportunity to meet Highways England Inspector on site to discuss. Robin Coates 07840610856.
