Noise increase

Ever since the motorway was expanded there has been a significant increase in noise. Only a small broken fence built in the 1970s remains. There needs to be a new large acoustic fence placed here similar to the one near junction 4.

Thank you for bringing the increased noise to our attention, following the Smart Motorway works.
During the Smart Motorways works new noise fencing was replaced or installed as appropriate. Our database shows that all Noise Important Areas along this stretch of the M20 have already been mitigated with insulation and at this time there are no plans to install further fencing.
We're planning resurfacing works to lanes 2 and 3 and anticipate carrying these works out in June 2021. Thin coat surfacing will be used and this should assist in reducing traffic noise.
We will continue to review this and will arrange any required work if the situation changes.
The current condition of the fence has been passed to our Inspector for review and suitable repair.
