Gap in the motorway bridge

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 13:36, Fri 9 April 2021

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2662156.

There has been a gap in the motorway bridge for some time but it appears to be getting bigger. It can be seen when heading south on Cow Lane.

In addition there is some graffiti on the bridge which, although not obscene, is offensive to the eye

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England. concerning damage to the motorway bridge at M56 Cow Lane and the non-offensive graffiti.
A site visit has been conducted. The structure was constructed in two halves and as such there is a expansion gap visible underneath as you walk through. Above that section is soft verge which is underneath the Central Reserve of the M56 motorway. At the present time there is a scheme working above which is renewing the parapets, when this is completed the Smart Scheme will move over the central reserve. The soft verge on the M56 is be excavated and new barriers put in place. Waterproofing the bridge, above the said expansion gap at the same time.
When all this is completed, the gap sealant which is visible by residents above the public footway can be replaced.
All graffiti has been painted over with grey paint. We have recently completed a Principal Inspection and have to put chalk marks on the bridge, this will go eventually.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

    Kind regards

    Highways England
