There are two main areas of concern at this location One smaller ( size of 2 house bricks across) but very square and deep and positioned approx 1m in front of roundabout stop line in the direct line of travel when turning left. It is a danger to mechanical damage to any normal vehicle and a danger to life for a cyclist or motorcycle and needs to be fixed ASAP. The second damaged area is the size of a car and approximately 2 m ahead of the first and this section has lost its top layer or road completely I have already tried to report this to South Tyneside council but they tell me it’s your responsibility Can you please give me feed back on this issue Also your contact phone number seems to not working as it goes straight to answer phone ! Thanks

Thank you for contacting Highways England regarding potholes at this location.
The initial Fix My Street report indicated that this was located at Whitemare Pool. Our Service Manager attended the site and identified a pothole, which he added to our current patching programme. This will be due to take place within the next month, weather permitting.
When an update came through on this Fix My Street report it was indicated that there were a further two main areas of concern. I went back to our Service Manager who went out a second time to investigate.
I can confirm that the responsibility for this issue, on this road, is that of the local authority: South Tyneside Council. As such, could we please ask that you contact them to resolve this issue.
As the Service Manager for this area made multiple site visits to inspect the area, he did identify a deep pothole on the local authorities patch, and instructed our contractors to temporarily fill it as a safety precaution.
The local authority should be able to complete a permanent repair of the area. Contact details for local authorities can be found by using the search facility at: www.gov.uk/find-your-local-council.
Thank you,
Highways England
