Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

Litter needs removing from all along the A5. I can’t believe it’s been allowed to get this bad.

  • Thank you contacting Highways England.

We, Highways England, are not responsible for picking litter on the A5. Under the Environmental Protection Act 1991, Central Bedfordshire Council are the responsible authority. You can contact them at info/ 55/ transport_roads_and_parking. We are collaborating with local authorities to ensure litter picking is better co-ordinated with other routine highway maintenance works on the strategic road network. We aim to minimise disruption to the travelling public, reduce costs and importantly, ensure safety standards of operatives are met. We are working with a number of local authorities to sign a more formal Partnership Agreement.

    Kind regards

    Highways England
