The amount of litter on verges between j 12 and 11a is absolutely deadful. vegetation has recently been cut but litter picking is badly needed as all verges are strewn with unsightly, offensive litter. Its an absolute disgrace and an embarrassment. encourages drivers to throw more litter out of their windows if area is a mess anyway. Also roundabout at jct 12 itself is always filthy, litter strewn and littered with broken roadsigns, cones etc. What a gateway to Gloucester! Not sure if thisis GCC responsibility though?
Thank you for contacting Highways England about the litter on the M5.
As you’re aware, we recently carried out vegetation clearance on the M5 embankments between junctions 11a and 9 to restore open grassland habitats. This is more extensive than the usual yearly vegetation cut we do and has exposed a large amount of litter that had been hidden previously.
Before we started our work, the vegetation was very dense with hawthorn and brambles so it wasn’t possible to safely clear all the litter ahead of our cutting. We're now working to collect this litter between junction 9 and 12.
The responsibility for the junction 12 roundabout is that of Gloucestershire County Council.
Could we please ask that you contact them to resolve.
