A1 in an absolute state.

Just driven from Peterborough to Doncaster for work. Like most roads, the whole stretch of the A1 (over 70 miles) is absolutely covered in litter. It is seriously beyond belief, so very sad to see the absolute state the country has become. All the laybys as well are absolutely disgusting. Overflowing bins, litter, human waste, flytipping everywhere. The majority of lorry drivers really are vile, using the laybys as their own personal rubbish bin and toilet. The country has been neglected and it is so depressing, and so damaging to the environment. What makes it even worse is a large section of the A1 near Grantham has been closed recently due to road works, and yet no litter picking was arranged. Frequently the main excuse as to why litter picking along major roads doesn't occur is due to lanes needing to be closed. Yet when they're closed for road works, nothing is done?! Highways England, you NEED to get in CONTACT with all the county councils responsible for clearing this stretch of A1 and arrange road closures and demand that they carry out major litter picking. Seriously send one of your environmental team out around the country and I hope they'll be equally horrified. The difference being they can do something about it, I can not. Please action this and don't ignore it any longer.

Just travelled from Newark to Grantham (Downtown store) and the amount of litter, alongside the A1, mostly plastic, is astounding. If there was a prize for the worst littered road in the country, I'm sure it would win. Absolutely appalling and so so sad. What visitors to the area must think, I cannot imagine. Please get it sorted and quickly.

I have written to Rutland County Council and our MP about the disgusting state of the A1-RCC have the mindset that nothing can be done. Close the road and inconvenience the drivers who drop litter! When the verges are cut a lane has to be closed??? Bins are in adequate or missing. I am told they are regularly emptied but who monitors that the contractors actually carry out what they are paid to do? National highways leave orange cones littered in the hedges and ditches as well as rusting signs. The public who don’t drop litter deserve better than this.
