Loose manhole cover

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2481556.

There is a loose manhole and the road surface is broken up around it. This makes a loud noise when vehicles go over it which is keeping us awake

  • This noise is getting louder and louder and as the manhole has now sunk due too the large vehicles going over this and the noise is hurendously loud. This needs to be prioritised due too the risk of lack of sleep and people needing to drive for work the following day which would impose a health and safety risk.

  • There are now two loose manholes within a few feet of each other that are both collapsing. Both on the westbound carriageway one on the track of the near side wheel and one on the offside. The combined noise is horrendous, especially when a large multi wheeled vehicle passes.

  • Thank you for contacting Highways England about 2 loose manhole covers on the A120.

    These are Anglian Water assets so it is Anglian Water's responsibility to maintain these. We have called these in and Anglian Water are due to attend in the next few hours under a one lane closure with 2 way traffic lights. Both covers should be repaired by this evening.

    We will provide a further update to confirm when the work has been completed.
