For years now, this part of the A1 has had deteriorating road markings and no lighting anywhere on the road between stamford and goner by moor junction. it is perilous in the winter and extremely dangerous without any markings or lighting. please stop stating you are looking at the problem and doing nothing about it before people are seriously hurt

Thank you for your patience whilst our inspector reviewed your report.
Road lighting is provided where there is a clear safety benefit. This is assessed by considering the number of night time darkness accidents and comparing it against the capital cost of providing the lighting, maintaining it, paying for the energy and then decommissioning it.
The provision of lighting is assessed in the same way as all safety schemes and is continuously assessed as part of accident trends across the whole of the network. Currently, there are no plans to provide lighting on the A1 as there is no clear benefit.
With regard to the road markings, where required the inspector will raise a works order for them to be refreshed as for studs. In the meantime there are mitigation signs in place to make the customer aware.

What a stupid response. So you're waiting for accidents to stack up before fixing a problem? How many human lives are you waiting to collect before doing anything? The United States provides lighting for all roadways.
