Insufficient lane markings on slip road

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 11:27, Sun 6 December 2020

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2419584.

Recently the roundabout at Jct4 M65 has been remarked, this includes the painting of dotted lane guidance markings leading from the slip road onto the roundabout. The dotted guidance now indicates that traffic from the slip road can enter the roundabout to turn right from either lane but the slip road has no lane guidance arrows on it, this is then causing problems are unaware until they get to the roundabout itself.

The slip road need some lane arrows marking on it showing that vehicles can turn right from either lane.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report about the road markings. While we maintain the M65 the responsibility for the roundabout lies with Blackburn with Darwen Council (BwDC). The improvements to the road markings on the roundabout were carried out by BwDC. As part of their scheme they should have included complimentary lane markings and signage on the slip roads. Unfortunately, this was missed when BwDC did their initial work and we have contacted them on this issue. I’m pleased to tell you additional signage and markings on the slip roads is to be implemented. We are agreeing the final arrangements with BwDC so don’t yet have an a date for the works. However, you should soon find that the road markings on the slip road marry with those on the roundabout. This will make journeys safer here. Should you wish to contact BDC on this matter, please email highways@blackburn.gov.uk or via their website https://www.blackburn.gov.uk/ roads-and-highways.

  • Thanks for your reply, However the markings need to be on the slip road itself, that's the responsibility of Highways as i understand it.
