Ref. 21789199 Thank you for contacting Highways England about the temporary barriers on the cycle path at this location.
The barriers are in place due to a small sinkhole which has been temporarily filled to make safe. The barriers are there to protect the public.
Our Inspectors are checking this temporary arrangement on a regular basis at least weekly and sometimes more frequently, as part of their regular inspection regime, where any problems are dealt with.
We're in the process of designing a scheme to protect the A38 Goodstone off-slip (which includes the cycleway) from any future problems arising from the sinkhole problem. We're scheduled to complete the design later in the 2021/22 with a view to starting works on site very soon afterwards. The works will also include the repairs to the associated footway/cycleway.
We hope this answers your enquiry. If you have any further queries, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or info@highwaysengland.co.uk
Kind regards Highways England
