Phasing at junction of A27 and Coombes Road

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 16:01, Wed 18 November 2020

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 2394393.

Dear Sir/ Madam.

I know I won't be the only person writing to you about this, but the operation of the A27 Sussex Pad Traffic lights are causing long queues on the Coombes Road (up to 400m long at times with an exit time of up to 20mins to get onto the A27 in busy periods 0745 – 0830Hrs and 1730 – 1815Hrs).

I timed these lights while in the queue recently on Coombes Road, and they were red/amber for 2 minutes and 20 seconds and green for 7 seconds. Please can this be reviewed as a matter of urgency.

Furthermore, the right turn from the A27 onto the Coombes Road is only letting 3-4 cars through when it is busy and causing traffic to back up dangerously onto the A27 right hand lane.

Previously these lights have successfully been working on volume of traffic and not just timing (as they appear to be now). These traffic lights are currently encouraging drivers to become impatient and take risks on an already busy and dangerous junction.

Please could you look into this urgently as this feels increasingly like a serious accident waiting to happen.

Many thanks
