Many overhead signs hard to read

Reported via mobile in the Sign Obscured (NH) category anonymously at 08:59, Friday 2 October 2026

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 10182140.

Many blue overhead motorway signs are hard to read because there is no lighting and the reflective material doesnt work well until you are very close to the sign. On a motorway this doesn't give you enough thinking time to decide which lane you need. Particularly problematic last night at 21.30 enroute to Manchester airport when a lot of sections of the motorways m6, m62, m60, m56 were closed due to roadworks thus causing us to divert and needing to read clear signage which was not evident.
