Lack of screening allowing significant noise penetration into Chalton Village

Reported anonymously at 17:16, Wed 24 November 2021

In 2017 Chalton Parish Council complained that the removal of mature trees and green infrastructure for the construction of the hard shoulder running had opened Chalton village to a significant levels of noise from this section of the M1. Following complaints Highways England planted a row of trees which should in time have offered both visual screening and noise attenuation. Unfortunately many of the trees have not made the growth that would have been expected or are either dead or broken. The Parish Council continue to receive complaints about excessive noise from the motorway particularly as the level of traffic is increasing. What can National Highways do to ameliorate the high levels of noise we now suffer?
