Phasing of Traffic Lights

Reported anonymously at 13:23, Sat 8 May 2021

Whereas the new Traffic lights at the Roundabout A616/A61 seemed to be phased acceptably when the rebuild at this location was first completed they are no longer functioning efficiently & are causing unnecessary delays and increased pollution. E.g. When a set of 'Junction' lights turned green (Set A) traffic flow commenced - shortly afterward the secondary set of Traffic Lights (Set B) on the traffic island itself (immediately in front of Set A) would also then turn green allowing traffic to flow on wards. Now the phasing has slipped - is mis-timed - So that traffic moving off from Set A is held up significantly at Set B which stays Red. Only a few vehicles cross to Set B (and block the junction), before Set A turns Red again. So by the time Set B turns Green, releasing the 'trapped' vehicles, there is no 'Flow' from that direction over Set A & Set B - and traffic approaching from a tangential junction, are blocked until this 'plug' of traffic clears. This leads to longer than necessary build up of traffic especially along the more heaviely used A616
